What to Pack for Your Safari Adventure
To ensure you are fully prepared and comfortable during your safari, we recommend bringing the following essential items:
Soft luggage only – Please use soft suitcases or duffel bags (no hard cases, frames, or wheeled bags). This is important because safari vehicles and small charter flights have limited luggage space.
Warm jackets – Evenings and early mornings can be surprisingly cold, especially in the desert and winter months. A warm fleece or jacket is essential.
Hats and caps – A wide-brimmed hat or cap will help protect you from the strong African sun.
Sunglasses – UV protection is a must for both comfort and safety in the bright outdoors.
Malaria medication – Consult your doctor for advice on malaria prevention and bring the recommended treatment or prophylaxis. Insect repellent is also highly recommended.
Books – Both leisure reading and wildlife/nature reference books can enhance your safari downtime.
Binoculars – A good pair of binoculars is invaluable for spotting wildlife at a distance.
Cameras and accessories – Bring your camera, spare memory cards, and extra batteries to capture those once-in-a-lifetime moments.
Electrical adapters – Botswana and much of Southern Africa use Type M power sockets (three round pins). Bring the appropriate adapter for your devices.
Torch or headlamp – Campsites and remote lodges may have limited lighting at night, so a torch or headlamp is very useful.
Additional Recommendations
Lightweight, neutral-colored clothing – Avoid bright colors; khaki, beige, and olive tones are ideal for blending into the environment.
Comfortable walking shoes – Essential for bush walks and moving around camp.
Personal toiletries and medications – Bring your own supply, as shops are limited in remote safari areas.
Reusable water bottle – Helps you stay hydrated and reduces plastic waste.
Sunscreen & lip balm with SPF – Protects against the strong African sun.
Small daypack – Handy for game drives and short excursions.
Travel insurance documents – Keep copies of your policy in case of emergencies.
